Beth Bathe

Beth Bathe’s representational paintings have been described as “evoking nostalgia, like that of an old sepia-toned photograph, often with just touches of color.” By simplifying forms and stripping away excess detail, she invites viewers to connect with the essence of her subjects, allowing personal memories and emotions to surface.

Her work often focuses on buildings beyond their prime—abandoned, derelict, or soon to disappear from the landscape. Painting primarily on location en plein air allows her to capture her subjects at a specific moment, especially when light and shadow interact to create mood and drama.

Beth’s limited palette, characterized by muted tones and subtle variations, deepens this sense of nostalgia. Each color is chosen with intention to create a harmonious atmosphere that resonates with familiarity and longing.

She lives in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and works out of “Short Dog Studio” in Ephrata, which she shares with her photographer partner and their three Cardigan Welsh Corgis.
