Allison Cosmos comes from a background in decorative art, painting furniture and murals. Her current work combines her love of nature and gardening with design. Many of her pieces feature birds and animals that are extinct, endangered, or entirely imaginary. She is influenced by the work of James Audubon, traditional Chinoiserie, and antique miniature Indian paintings.
Allison enjoys working with acrylics and matte medium in a layered approach that creates a subtly translucent appearance. Once the washes of color dry, she adds precise, tiny details until the painting feels complete. Her backgrounds are typically solid, bringing a sense of modernity to the work, though she occasionally uses patterned backgrounds inspired by her love of wallpaper and fabric design.
