Allison Cosmos comes from a background of decorative art, painting furniture and murals. Her current work combines her love of nature and gardening with design. Many of her works include birds and animals that are extinct, endangered or completely imaginary. She is influenced by the work of James Audubon, traditional Chinoiserie and antique miniature Indian paintings.
Allison enjoys working with acrylics and matte medium in a layered approach which reveals a somewhat translucent appearance. Once the washes of color are dry, she works in precise tiny details until the painting feels complete. Typically her backgrounds are solid which bring a sense of modernity to the pieces. However, occasionally she works on a patterned background which incorporates her love of wallpaper and fabric design.
